I am upgrading my layout's power supply from the GW-180 to a 360W PowerMaster. I was thinking I could use the brick that comes with the GW-180 with the PowerMaster and just buy a single new one to complement it, since in the manual it states the PowerMaster should have two bricks and never one.

When I looked up the 180W brick, I discovered that Lionel produces two bricks: the PowerHouse (10a) 6-85226 and the 180W PowerHouse Power Supply 6-22983. In the PowerMaster manual it says to use two of the 6-22983, although I'm not sure if that's because the 6-85226 is newer. At the online dealer I was shopping at, the 85226 is also cheaper. So what's the difference between the two? Is it a difference in how they plug in, or something else? Can they be used with each other and interchangably? And can I use the 180W brick from the GW-180 on the Legacy PowerMaster?

I think the 6-22983 was replaced by the newer model 6-85226.  I don't have any new ones, only have 6-22983s here, but I've heard from others here on the forum that the new ones require an extra pin in the molex connector to the track to allow them to output track power. Something that was required for safety for the UL listing. No idea about any other circuitry changes, but the output is still the same 180 watts & 10 amps.

It sounds like mixxing different units together shouldn't be an issue then since the PowerMaster manual simply wants two 135W or two 180W bricks. But the extra molex has me wondering, will it connect to the PowerMaster? It sounds like a dumb question but I would hate to spend +$100 on one of these only to have to return it because it won't hook up.
