Yes Mike but back then you could take things to the Lionel showroom repair facility on 26th St. and they would make things right while you waited. Didn't have to show any receipts either ...

... hidden away for almost 30 yrs? Well, that would make that circa 1982. Now you know why many of us PW types were pursuing other interests then & you still can buy much of that era stuff for pennies on the dollar today.

THE DATE ON THE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE BOX IS 1983 , 29 YEARS+ , THE STARS ARE THERE THEY ARE JUST MOSTLY COVERED BY THE HEM ON THIS SIDE .IT WILL MAKE A NICE CONVERSATION PIECE IN MY MEMORIAL PARK SCENE , WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE IF IT IS NOTICED BY VISITORS. MY SON PLACED 2 SMALL MONKEYS ON THE LAYOUT (WHERES WALDO) AND IY IS FUN WHEN SOMEONE NOTICES THEM.

Would like to know if anyone has had problems with Lionel's Train Orders Building (Station)???   I purchased one about 2-3 years ago.   The man that comes out with the orders got stuck behind the door to the building and got jambed up.  Now it won't work right.  So back in April 2012 I bought a new one.  The same thing happened.  The man with the orders got stuck when coming out the door.  Now this one is done for.  I noticed the door on the building was bent.   I e-mailed Lionel and called them.  They told me they wouldn't do anything about it!!!!!   NOT EVEN A ONE YEAR WARRANTY ON THE THING!!!!! They said they would fix it for me at a rate of $60.00 per hr!!!!!   Why would I pay this much out to have it fixed when I can buy a brand new one for $1.00 less??????   Don't think I'll be buying anymore Lionel JUNK!!!!

Being what they are, sometimes they need a tweak or two to operate smoothly. Too bad you didn't notice the door was bent before it jammed, might have been a very easy fix at that point.

I guess I have been lucky, my Lionel accessories have been pretty solid. I do keep an eye on them and adjust, oil, graphite or whatever is needed to keep them running smoothly. Maybe from the two you have you can swap parts as needed and get one operating smoothly.

Ah yes... The realities of living in a disposable society.  When products can be made so cheaply (and priced accordingly), it doesn't pay to have the darn things fixed anymore.  Of course, the corollary to that line of thinking is we also price our own labor force out of the market.

It's not just this hobby either.  A couple of months ago, one of our blu-ray players went south.  The new ones are so gosh darn cheap now, it would have cost MORE to repair the one that was a few years old than to just buy a new one.

David

Your right!!!   Never going to buy another one!!!!   Going to York in a couple of weeks to look for something to replace it with!!!!   And it won't be from Lionel either!!!  Originally Posted by C W Burfle:

After having two fail, why would you buy another one at all?

FWIW there are parts for these, depending on what the problem is it may only cost a couple of bucks to fix, cheaper than shipping it to Lionel even if they did warranty it.
