Hi, I'm getting around to painting my Rico station, but I am a little confused about the roof. Is it supposed to be cedar shakes or a slate roof? What color have you painted your roofs?

I did mine in a RED toned down a bit with a light spray of dullcote
Re color... If a shake roof, I'd go with a dark brown (umber). Then, after that's dry, then I'd dry brush a light gray (the aging of the wood).

I would think that a cedar shake roof next to a rail line occupied & used by coal or woodburning locomotives might not work out too well. I may be wrong.
There was a recent thread along the lines of "let's see your Rico stations". It had some really nicely finished examples if you are looking for some ideas. Maybe someone who possesses the necessary skills to attach a link to that thread will chime in.
