Lionel's COMBO door steel "O" reefer, who knew?

I had 2 sets of the PFE's and sold them a year or so ago. They were nice. Kinda wish I didn't sell them. I still have all 3 of the NYC early bird ones that they made.

I guess they were a RARE model? 

We roughed-in several varieties of the 40 Foot Reefer when it was initially designed. The "combo-door" car was one of them.

If I remember correctly, you'll see the screw bosses for the different door arrangements on the underside from the first cars in 2003, even though the actual tooling of the door variations wouldn't take place for a few more years.

Finished weathering this 15 dollar ebay car I found by accident. Probably one of the nicest models made in O. I'm certain if someone could start making 40/50' combo door box cars in O, sales would be up in 2018. TRW, please tell me more???

  After obtaining several variations of these Lionel series reefers, I wish MTH would scrap those out dated crappy plug door ice reefers and come up with something new.

I believe we planned three reefer styles from the beginning -- center opening doors, plug doors and combo doors. All were eventually rolled-out over time.
