That's the beauty of the BTO model.  It's BTO based on dealer order volumes -- not actual consumer pre-orders.  So as long as you don't wait too long after a BTO item hits the streets, you'll be OK With many of the larger dealers.

The other point I strongly COMMEND Charlie Ro for, for as long as I've been buying from him...  I've never seen him play pricing games with newly delivered Lionel product.  He typically publishes two prices:  a pre-order early-buy, and a regular selling price after the pre-order deadline.  Sometimes the difference is only $10-$20.  Other times it's $50+.  But that's it.

For example, if you pre-ordered the cab-forward as an early-buy, it was $1199.  If you missed the early-buy deadline, it's now $1229.  Pretty straightforward.  You won't see Charlie Ro push the selling price to $1279 or $1325 a few weeks after he receives shipment of a potentially hot item.  I know there are folks here who want to lecture me on the laws of economics and profit-making, but please save it.   I'm never impressed when dealers change prices on reportedly "hot products" every few days, as if they're working the floor of the stock market.  Just publish your prices and stick to them.  When you're sold out, you're sold out.  The sky won't fall.

I agree with you on this.  I purchased an Item from a different forum sponsor dealer becuase I missed the preorder on the item I wanted.  It was either the PE baggage or combo car.  It was the only dealer that I could find that still had stock of this one car.  The price was high.  Still under MSRP, but not by much.  The day after I bought it, I checked the site, it had jumped another $10 in price.  Glad I ordered when I did.  Not sure if I will ever purchase from this forum sponsor in the future unless they have a really good sale on something that is not available elsewhere.  I was in a bind since I thought I could skip this item.  When I changed my mind, no others had it.  Another dealer had the other car that I did not preorder.  Their price was almost $10 cheaper than the preorder price I would have paid if I had prordered.  They also had an n-scale starter set for my kid that my regular dealer did not have.  The n-scale set was almost $100 cheaper than I had seen elsewhere.  I know where I will be going first when my regular dealer does not have an item in stock.  I still plan to use my regular dealer first.  Hopefully I will preorder the items next time instead of needing to check other sites.
