Good evening everyone, I am just curious as to what gauge wire is used in the Lionel Scale Street Lamps (http://www.lionel.com/products...treet-lamps-6-24156/), SKU: 6-24156. I am trying to lengthen the factory wiring to hook them up in series. I am also looking for information on a suitable connector to use as well.  Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not much when it comes to electronics, but in my experience wiring lamps in series, as you mention, was a bad choice.  The first light was nice and bright and each successive light was dimmer and dimmer.  I'm assuming that 'series' is like 'daisy chaining"??

Maybe you mean 'parallel"??

The only reason that you'd see behavior like that is if the lamps had different current requirements.  Wiring identical lamps in series should work just fine.

I just purchased a set of these street lights (6-24156) date on instructions 6/21. They use LED bulbs, that have burned out already on (2) lights. Lionel says they do not have replacement bulbs. Is anyone else having this problem?

I am just asking, did you power with ac or DC, there is another thread on the forum discussing that situation, it helped me.

I recognize your complete and full understanding of all things electrical John, but in my example I used 5 IDENTICAL Lionel street lamps (incandescent if it matters) I know what I saw and the lights got dimmer from 1 to 5.

Maybe my understanding of what 'series' means is wrong then.  I picture it as a feed coming to light one and then the other wire goes directly to light 2 and 2's other wire goes directly to light 3, etc.

John, I'd never ever want to debate electrical things with you so I guess I'm missing something, but I know what I saw

Thanks for asking Ray. I wired them to the 14 volt accessory post on my Lionel TW transformer.

Jeff, I looked at the manual for those lights on the Lionel site, from what I could see it looks like the lights do not have a diode in the wiring, that may be the problem of operating them on ac power, I request John to weigh in on that. Look at the link attached.
