HI everyone.  I'm a first-time forum rookie.  I have a lot of experience with HO, great with design, layout construction and scenery, but electronics is still all just magic to me.  My layout is getting  close to operational so lately I've been buying quite a few Lionel TMCC and MTH P1 steam engines from the late '90s (no Legacy, mostly Oddesy and P1) at auction, and while most operate well, many have poor to garbled sound.  Before I shell out $s for repair, in your opinion, is this primarily , doese anyone have a wiring schematic for an old Willamsa result of perhaps being too long in storage.  Are there a few tricks to test and fix? Is it usually just a bad speaker, or are the boards usually shot?

I'll appreciate all the help I can get. I will eventually be running 7 routes, several on Cab 1L TMCC and two on DCS.

Also, does anyone have a schematic for an old Williams brass can motored PRR 4-6-2 cab # 5400?
