Does anyone know when Lionel came out with these models? The power shovel is 6-12751; I don't have the number for the crane truck. These are both plastic kits that you assemble.
Thanks,
George

Thank you.

The P&H shovel and truck crane, were actually first offered in the early to mid 60's, ( maybe even late 50's???). I do not know what the original part numbers were back then.
I had both, along with the flatcars that came with them.

The P&H tractor shovel was brought out in 1960, it was 6827-100, the crane was brought out in 1960-1963, and again in 1966. It was 6828-100. The flat cars were just the first four numbers. I had both, my brother bought them when he worked at Two Guys, and bought them for me after Christmas, at half price! Wish I could buy them now for that price!
Wow, I didn't realize these were that old (in their original releases).
I got the shovel for $4 at York. I think the crane was a similar price.

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THESE PHOTOS THESE HAVE BEEN RE-ISSUED SEVERAL TIMES UNDER VARIOUS NUMBERS ,COLORS, DECORATIONS AND ACCOMPANING FLATCARS.IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE ITEMS YOU WILL SEE THAT THE EARLY 1960-1963/1966 VERSIONS HAVE THE P&H LOGO'S HEAT STAMPED INTO THE CABS AND THE LATER UNITS ARE NOT STAMPED. THE PWC UNITS ARE 16978 (1997)AND29486(2003)
AGAIN ARE BOXED KIKE THE EARLY UNITS AND ARE ALSO HEATSTAMPED.
I've seen people asking from $4.00 up to around $30 each for the modern era crane and shovel kits in chipboard boxes.
There is a scarce modern era pair, #9158-101 steam shovel kit, and #9157-101 crane kit, which are difficult to find, and can be expensive. These kits came in corrigated cardboard boxes with rather plain white labels. They date to the mid 1970's.
Thank you all for the wealth of information!
Lorentzroy, I have orange crane (left side of the 14th photo). I couldn't really tell from some of the photos, but it looked like there was a version with an older Mack B-type cab. Is that so? Can you give me the model number? I might want to trade mine for that version.
Thank you!
George
SORRY , MY PHOTOGRAPHY LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED(IT SUCKS), I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THESE MODELS WITH A DIFFERENT STYLE OF TRUCK , I HAVE 6 VARIATIONS OF THE CRANE AND 5 OF THE SHOVEL , IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO KITBASH A MODEL USING A MACK OR OTHER TRUCK CHASSIS , HOWEVER MOST AVAILABLE TRUCKS ARE NOT TO THE SAME SCALE AS THE CRANES , KLINE WOULD PROBABLY BE THE CLOSEST CAB UNITS IN SIZE.
Lorentzroy,
I appreciate that you checked and that you took those photos for this thread.
The fact that Lionel didn't have an older cab for the crane makes me comfortable with the general timeframe. I don't have to change it, which is good.
Best,
George
