I'm working on a 6-18378 Subway set converting to LEDs. It's not going well. I've installed the LED positive side near the square end of the circle (see photo) but they keep shorting out. Any ideas? I've tried about 6 LEDs and the same thing happens. Can I wire the resistor (330 ohm) like I have it?

Is the resistor shorted out by the trace, or is the trace broken under the resistor?

Must be one of the two. I wired the resistor like in the photo and the light didn't short.

Decided to redo the circuit. Wired them all like this. Tested all three (individually) and they all work and don't short out. Should I connect the PCB to the car and try it for real?

I installed it in the car and it works correctly. Now to do the other side of the car.

The resistor was likely shorted out, I would have used a ohm meter to check the resistor before apply power.
Without the resistor in series with led, the led will quickly short out.
The second method was much safer, but I would add shrink wrap tubing to the exposed bare wiring, to prevent shorts.

Probably was. My attempt to make the installation a little neater (resistor on bottom) didn't quite work. I'll add a little tubing.
