Awhile back I posted that our scale F3's were experiencing trouble at the club layout. Train #18 fired up fine and all functions appeared to work but she wouldn't move in either direction. I posted here about it and someone posted the instructions to reset the locomotive (which I am most grateful). Tonight I tried the reset and it made all the appropriate sounds but still no motion. This is the first time in all these years I've experienced this particular issue. Several engines have 'fried' with smoke and bad smells but this one appears fine with all sounds, smoke (from the stacks) couplers, lights, et al. functioning perfectly.

Is there anything else I can check before sending it off?     Thanks.

Hi Marty.  Don't have the boxes handy but it appears to be 6-24529 from 2004.

They worked fine last year on my bench and have been on the wall since in my office here at home. When I try to run them they make no movement at all so it appears there is nothing binding. Didn't check the amps on the Z4000 but the lights didn't flicker or dim. All appeared fine otherwise...SKU: 6-24529

I followed the instructions for a reset using the AUX1 and #8 to complete the reset. It responded with the horn at each SET input.

Sam, pull the plugs out of the Motor driver board  and reseat them.    On the Odyssey sensor board mounted on the motor, look at the small square pad and do the following with your meter set to DC.  Put the positive probe on the small square pad and the negative probe on chassis ground.  You need to see +5VDC.  If you do not see 5V you need to go to the motor driver board next.

Sam, when you head to the driver board, keep heading upstream until you see 5 VDC.   Good point from George on the burned traces.  That is not an uncommon issue.  The one I see go on the traces are power in.  Take your continuity meter and place one end on the roller and go to pins one and two on the R2LC, Railsounds power board, and Audio board.   A visual check of the mother board for other blown traces requires un screwing the board and viewing the bottom.  A blown trace will show usually as a silver line and that is your burned trace.  

 

You know what you are doing and should come up with something.
