lionel trainmaster tmcc upgrade kit...are they still available?
Want to upgrade older Lionel C-420 conventional to tmcc.
Where should I look to find the upgrade kit?
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Electric railroad is the best source for adding TMCC to locos.
As Roy said, Electric Railroad Company is the very best source for adding TMCC to locos; check out their website. www.electricrr.com
Here is the manual to the kits: https://www.lionelsupport.com/...ents/72-2960-250.pdf
On the C-420 you may have to change a few more wires. It's in the instructions.
Here is the part you will need.
691R2LCC08 | R2LC / RADIO RECEIVER (C08 CODE) | $40.00 |
I have the above boards as well will several others that are service centers.
Good to see you posting again Walter!

Actually, if you're upgrading a C420 you want to purchase a 691R2LCC07, as the headlight wires are backwards from all other locos. If you put a C08 in there the lights will not function until you reverse the leads. Use a C07 and its plug then play without issues. If you want to add coil couplers use 6108855550, the trucks are real "joy" to disassemble and reassemble, but not impossible, just have a glass/bottle of your favorite relaxing beverage and take your time, when you get into the trucks, just remember; "flat side down", you'll understand once you're into it. If you want to upgrade to Railsounds you need the following; 691RSPRA00 & for Alco specific sounds you'll want a 691PCB10AD (we are out of stock on the generic alco boards right now, but call in or email me mreagan@Lionel.com and we can program one for you).
If you already ordered a C08, return it or save it, but don't drop it in the C420, use only the C07 (it will make your life more enjoyable in the long run!)
Thanks,
Mike
Once again, Mike goes beyond what one would expect!
Just sayin'

Nice detailed response Mike.
I did this upgrade a few years back without the electro couplers. Since I only run this loco I do not miss them. It was a simple as removing one board, dropping in the new one and programming the loco. Apparently whoever sold me the board provided me with the correct one as the headlights have never been a problem. I did have to go back in and make the antennae longer, the loco was the only fussy one I owned until I made that adjustment.
