Trying to work out the embed code for the forum, but for the moment here is a direct link. Good segment on Lionel this morning on Today.

Nice!
That was a very nice segment connecting the past with the present with regards to trains and the holidays.
That was probably one of the better segments I've seen. Nice work to NBC and Lionel!
Great coverage - liked the Polar Express set.
Thanks for sharing !
It was very well done! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting the link it was nice to watch .
A very enjoyable segment. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Different from the past segments, which were actually "live" on the Today Show set with an operating layout. But almost any mention of Lionel trains on a show like this is a good thing.
If I had been at the pre-production meeting, and heard it said that an interview was being filmed with a standard gauge collector, I would have wondered, how will this tie in with the hobby now? But as it was done, someone did a nice job with the editing and the piece worked well, between the nostalgia of yesteryear to the technology of today.
Given how critical this audience here is, I wouldn't be surprised to read "well, that wasn't much of a layout in the studio, at the end of the clip." Yes, maybe true, but then again, it was a more accurate representation of how many of us first saw that very first train set we ever got.... which was probably a starter set! And thus the tradition lives on.
Great to watch. I also thought the editing was done in an intelligent manner. One point I must complain about however, is the Today show logo on the screen. God forbid anyone loose track of what channel they are watching. It should have been minimized after a few seconds.
I enjoyed it.

It's called Branding. Everyone network wants you to know what you are watch and whether someone else is using the footage. Or at least make it difficult to use. IMO the lower 3rd could have been lost though with only the network bug left.
Where's Matt Lauer?

I believe he's spending more time with his family. LOL. The train segment was well done and you could see how much filming, editing, etc goes into a very short piece on a morning news show.

The constant logo appearance has nothing to do with reminding viewers what they watching, Dan, but rather it's protection against unauthorized use and pirating of the Today show's programming.
Good publicity for the hobby. Since most of the train displays and layouts in NYC have disappeared this news show piece shows that the hobby is still alive and well. For my family trains have been part of the Christmas holiday season for two generations. I hope to run trains with my first grandson once day but he is only 3 months old and if God wills it, we will be running trains by 2019.
I truly enjoyed the piece. I would be interested in article about that gentleman’s collection in OGR ,if of course, the subject would be agreeable and Allan could find someone to write it.

Yes, this was better than the prior years where they just all stood around talking around the layout. This had more impact and I believe could translate into more sales and interest. People need to know the why about trains and could just get turned off by just watching the anchors stand around the layout as in past years.
Thanks for sharing.
it is essential lionel spreads to the new gen folk
i myself am only 22 and growing up out of everyone of friends i talked to i was the only one who wanted trains for christmas while everyone wanted videogames and stuff
Yes: Cool video, no very cool video. Nice to see our hobby on the national TV.

Missed it, did they run the Mogul ?

You can view the entire segment yourself by clicking on the link in the original post. (No mogul shown.)
Thanks Derek for posting
I would have missed that -
Very nicely done. I got a kick out of it when the one female personality wanted it to go faster. She would love Post War.
Very well done for network TV, and John DeSantis was a great spokesman for the hobby!
Totally agree. Much better segment than the Today reports on toy trains over the last several holiday seasons. Excellent set-up for the piece showing the vintage Lionel layouts and giving the audience some background history.
Always wonder when I see these how many in the viewing audience are saying, "...wow, I didn't know Lionel was still around."
And then go out and buy some trains!
I'll have to look at this when I get home.
John DeSantis is also the promoter for one of the largest venues that takes place at the Pittsburgh, David L Lawrence, convention center. The Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show. A 9 day event, March, each year. The Pittsburgh TCA group, (Fort Pitt High-railers) sets-up a large modular O gauge layout, and a kids club layout, for the show, front lobby over the Allegheny river.
Thanks for sharing!
Very nice!
Yes, a clip from Risky Business. Cool!
Surprisingly well done story. Good to see flashers of production in Charlotte. Be good if they did a story on Lionel returning some manufacturing to USA. Thanks for posting....I didn't even know TODAY was still on!!!
Great to see the connection of kids and trains to Christmas live on. Something many of us grew up with. The connection to Hanukkah and other celebrations should be made as well. That's a miss IMO for the hobby.
Quality publicity is always welcome
Thanks for sharing. Strong identification of the generations; Grandfather to grandchildren and the bond that trains strengthen. Clever marketing concept. Nice to see how well the piece was done.
thats super. hope that sparks more interest with showing the APP controls with the youth!
GREAT NATIONAL EXPOSURE. HOPE THIS HELPS IN BRINGING IN THE NEXT GENERATION
