i have several O Ucs tracks I want to rewrite. I don't and will never use the operating function but will use the uncouple function. I want to wire these through push button momentary switches mounted on my control board. Can anyone out there help me figure out what wires I need to run or combine to make the momentary switch work?

Thanks

Greetings, I hate to resurrect this topic, and I have spent some time reading up on the Lionel UCS wiring mods and I think I have a stupid idea because I have not read about anyone else considering it. That notwithstanding, I'm just ignorant.

Idea: open the #3 UCS (I think I'm working with a 6019) circuit by cutting the plate between the coil and terminal post and create a dedicated circuit to the coil by relocating the coil wire on #2 circuit to the #3 terminal circuit. Supply the coil now on #3 terminal with non-track power via a SPST momentary switch

I'm hoping to only energize the coil when it is needed. I find there is a voltage drop on the left rail when the coil is on that circuit. Is there any reason to have both coil and left rails energized?

I think I need a DPDT momentary switch to carry out the car operations which use the L/R rails, but I have yet to figure out how to wire the switch.

Is the above tenable without compromising any car functions?

UPDATE (02.10.2023):

Since I did not get any feedback on the above I did the right thing and moved forward on the Lionel UCS/6019 modifications. I have 3 UCSs (I believe) which now have dedicated feeds via DPDT toggle to the coil and the left/right rails. I also setup 6 of the coil-only things the same way but with SPST mom button. All these Uncoupler/Unloaders are powered by a separate transformer...running at 13v for now. All is working fine but I think there is one drawback: the right rail-set (UCS) can no longer be energized for uncoupling.
