Can't wait!
Man all HE@# is going to break loose when everyone gets these!Nick
Video was very informative.....The tutorial coupled with a reading of the manual, is a must. I especially liked Mike's reassurance that the smoke units incorporated into the Visionline Big Boy were "very reliable." With 4 smoke units in this monster, the possibility of smoke unit failure, is a distinct possibility. Do not relish the idea of packing this up and shipping it back to Lionel for any warranty repairs.

I was trying to justify buying this, I just had to say it is too much money for my situation now. I will regret not having one. But I am happy I was able to realize that, financially, it was not for me. While I was on the fence, I was concerned about warranty repairs. I seem to recall reading somewhere a while back that all vision line products were given free shipping to and from Lionel for warranty repairs. If that is still the case, that makes the process a little less painful. I would still would be worried about possible damage in transit.
Proper packing minimizes that possibility. I make sure things are packed extra well when shipping.

Give it some time and I'm sure you won't..
I'm sure some of the new features, especially wheel slipping sound will trickle down to smaller engines better suited for most layouts.

Have no worries. This is a purely emotional purchase. There is no "justifying" necessary. In fact, once Lionel announced their new Y6b -- which sells for roughly $600 less on the street, they made it very difficult for folks to "justify" the price of the Big Boy.
So with that in mind, you just gotta know that you made the right decision for yourself. And that's all that counts. If you REALLY want one, there are still some to be ordered at most of the large dealers. But the premium won't be sustained over time, if the track record of other locomotives is any indication (i.e., JLC Challengers, JLC Y6b, even prior Legacy Big Boys, etc...).
If you go on pure financials, you'll be happy you passed in 6-9 months. But for UP enthusiasts who purchased one because they like the locomotive, I'm sure they'll be very happy with their decision.

Dave, add me to that list! I couldn't miss out on this being a huge UP steam fan!
I'm wondering if we might see them at our doorstep before Christmas wishful thinking!!
Thanks for posting the video, the manual will be read also.
Not a UP fan, I just wanted a VL Bigboy. Looking forward to getting it, the new loop still needs a lot of work.

I really like that whistle.
Cannot wait to get mine. Looks like a hit, I placed an order for the freight cars as well.
The sounds made my heart skip a beat. I must have one! So which is the one to get. There are a few options...what varies? I would rather have something that pulled a revenue train and not a refurbished one that runs today.

Getting excited to see mine on the rails of my home layout. I have a 36 car Pacific Fruit Express train and caboose waiting in the yard for Big Boy to couple up to.
that must be a pretty big yard!

you are safe...there are none that run today.

ME TOO!
It's really possible those near the distributors could have one by Tuesday!
Have any actually been delivered? What are the chances for the Midwest by Wednesday.

My PFE train is only a 1/6 of that size, and the caboose is still on order, but they are not in a yard, but I am still ready to drive the BB!

Who knows!? A lot of variables involved-how close you live to the dealer, shipping volume and other factors. I know that isn't the answer you want to hear.
I'm in the Midwest also. Usually an item arrives the next day from my dealer, but whenever will be fine.
Pleasently surprised Lionel made the delivery date! Great job by them!
We'll know when they start arriving-I predict a lot of VL BB threads on this forum

I've got 3 more on order so I'll have 9 total for now. I do plan on getting a bunch more, but want to pay this off first. Until then I've got lots of other scale and non-scale (even tin plate) cars to put behind it. It'll get a workout for sure.
I have 9 PFE reefers coming with the BB, and I have about 30 already on hand. I think I'm ready for the BB!
My card was charged today by Ro. I spoke to them and they said they're shipping them out today in extra-large padded boxes.
I have 35 PFEs all set to go behind it. In total, our club members have ordered 5 BBs. Maybe we can get a super MU going!
I can't wait. I wonder if my wife will be mad if I go to the club on Christmas to run it? <G>
Meet you there on the 26th
According to a very good source, Lionel has been inspecting them as they come into the country and shipping immediately to dealers so my guess is by the end of the week or early next week.

I cannot say that I have any PFE's to pull yet, but I just ordered 3 and will start my collection. May never catch up to Chris or GunRunner John, but it is atart
Get your reefers ready the BigBoy is here!! Got the call today from my LHS it is there waiting for me. I only have 20 PFEs but its a good start...
Did the BigBoy ever pull coal ??
