Do not relish the idea of packing this up and shipping it back to Lionel for any warranty repairs.

I was trying to justify buying this, I just had to say it is too much money for my situation now.  I will regret not having one.  But I am happy I was able to realize that, financially, it was not for me.  While I was on the fence, I was concerned about warranty repairs.  I seem to recall reading somewhere a while back that all vision line products were given free shipping to and from Lionel for warranty repairs.  If that is still the case, that makes the process a little less painful.   I would still would be worried about possible damage in transit.

Have no worries.  This is a purely emotional purchase.  There is no "justifying" necessary. In fact, once Lionel announced their new Y6b -- which sells for roughly $600 less on the street, they made it very difficult for folks to "justify" the price of the Big Boy.

So with that in mind, you just gotta know that you made the right decision for yourself.  And that's all that counts.  If you REALLY want one, there are still some to be ordered at most of the large dealers.  But the premium won't be sustained over time, if the track record of other locomotives is any indication (i.e., JLC Challengers, JLC Y6b, even prior Legacy Big Boys, etc...).

If you go on pure financials, you'll be happy you passed in 6-9 months.  But for UP enthusiasts who purchased one because they like the locomotive, I'm sure they'll be very happy with their decision.

LOL!

I wouldn't wait.  Since they too are BTO, there is not a lot of extra floating around.

My PFE train is only a 1/6 of that size, and the caboose is still on order, but they are not in a yard, but I am still ready to drive the BB!

Who knows!?  A lot of variables involved-how close you live to the dealer, shipping volume and other factors.  I know that isn't the answer you want to hear.

I'm in the Midwest also.  Usually an item arrives the next day from my dealer, but whenever will be fine.

Pleasently surprised Lionel made the delivery date!  Great job by them!

We'll know when they start arriving-I predict a lot of VL BB threads on this forum

You're going to need a lot more reefers!

I've got 3 more on order so I'll have 9 total for now.  I do plan on getting a bunch more, but want to pay this off first.  Until then I've got lots of other scale and non-scale (even tin plate) cars to put behind it.  It'll get a workout for sure.

My card was charged today by Ro.  I spoke to them and they said they're shipping them out today in extra-large padded boxes.

I have 35 PFEs all set to go behind it.  In total, our club members have ordered 5 BBs. Maybe we can get a super MU going!

I can't wait.  I wonder if my wife will be mad if I go to the club on Christmas to run it? <G>
