My VisionLine Triplex is a magnificent engine.  I really like it ALOT.     The one negative is the weak or nonexistent whistle smoke.   I think others might be experiencing similar.

I contacted Dave Olsen of Lionel and he suggested using compressed air to clear out the tubing to the Whistle.    Prior to doing this I had really no smoke.       After clearing the whistle tubing with compressed air I didn’t immediately see a rush of smoke.     However after several minutes of running and constant whistling……. I saw smoke.

Either I am extremely impatient ( I am) or the engine has to run for several minutes for the Whistle smoke to work.    Even though the Stack smoke works almost immediately and it feeds the Whistle.

By the way, did I say I really like this Engine?????

The whistle smoke fluid first has to make it under the divider in the dual smoke unit, it wicks through the felt at the bottom of the bowl to the other side.  Needless to say, this takes some time, and if you really put 20 drops maximum in there, you're no likely to see much whistle smoke in any case.  You have to use additional fluid and wait for it to slowly migrate to the whistle smoke side.

I don't know why some engines seem to work better with that scheme for the dual smoke unit and others the smoke from the secondary side seems anemic for a very long time.
