So I recently did some organizing of the wiring in my UP 844 and then I had an issue where only some of the lights came on. I found that this wire broke from the plug. What could I do to fix it? Is there a piece I can take out of the plug to reclamp it to the wire or do I try to soldering it back on?

Wrap a length of #10 gauge solid copper wire to the end of your soldering iron then tin its tip. Wire gauge may be reduced as necessary to fit your need. Care must be taken so as to not burn the adjacent leads nor the connector wells.
"Is there a piece I can take out of the plug to reclamp it to the wire" Yes. Use small brass tubing to fit over the pin from the other side and push the pin out for reuse. After you re-crimp your stripped wire, open the prongs on the pin to hold it in when you push it back into the socket.
You can repair the plug. Go to YouTube and type How to repair Molex plugs. That's what you have. Read, watch learn something. Let us know how it goes.
A novel thought is to use the correct Molex connector pin for the job. CONN FEMALE 22-28AWG 2.5MM TIN
If you don't have a crimp tool, you can actually put these on by crimping the wire by hand and then a tiny drop of solder to secure things. Obviously, it's preferable to have the crimp tool.
If the connector shell is damaged, you may need to replace it.

I cringe when I see hack jobs on wiring come in for repair, and they do arrive quite frequently!
Thank you everyone for the help, we ended up soldering another wire in to the clip and then soldering that to the existing wiring. It works great! Just a few hours of frustration.

Is the 5264 SPOX/2.5mm shroud series the standard for Lionel innards? For example, the reverse board on a conventional dockside switcher, pictured below?
