Put my vintage (20 years old) Lionel Y6b (6-28085) on the mainline yesterday. Turned the voltage to 18 volts and immediately I noticed sounds coming from the tender and the back up light was on. When I selected the engine with my TMCC controller nothing happened. So, I substituted another engine with the Y6b tender and everything was fine. So, perhaps the Y6b loco is not sending any info to its tender. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks.

Does it run conventionally? Handrails not grounded to the boiler? Alex M has advised me to then check for a loose board in these situations.
Just did a Super-Chuffer upgrade on one of these.
Question: Does the headlight light? The green class lights? How about the cab light?
No lights anywhere would suggest a power connection issue. If the headlight is out but the cab light is on, then the R2LC may indeed have fallen out of it's socket.
The engine should run without the tender. The only thing it’s sending to the tender is communication for the sounds, back up light and coil coupler. By putting the engine on the mainline. I’m guessing you took it off a shelf. It could be anything if it’s been sitting. Any chance handling the engine you could have slipped it to program mode.
Any results yet?
I was told by one Lionel service person that it could be a mother board or the radio receiver. The engine shows no response to power, only the tender.
Perhaps you could answer my previous questions.
So has it been resolved?
Anything?
