Not for me.
I like some of the Halloween stuff and the Alien items but I'm not into the pure horror stuff at all.
Lets make this....and see what happens.

I'll be getting one as my 13 year old is a horror movie fan. I like what Lionel is doing with licensed items such as DC comics and Disney. I wish someone would make some James Bond items. Trains figure in a lot of Bond films.
I'm not interested, but I'm not interested in the Halloween or Alien sets (or even most of the Christmas stuff)
My Dad has an Alien set, and it only ran once. My Mom won't allow it under the Christmas tree, and I haven't asked to run it on my layout.
I imagine if it sells well they will do more. If sales are poor, you will see something different next time. I don't think I will be getting one.
Not interested at all.
IMHO all those fantasy themed trains are silly.
None of that stuff is for me, but if people like it, fine.
I haven't actually seen it. I love older horror movies like "Friday the 13th", "The Fog", etc. My sons and I even attend a horror movie convention once or twice a year. However, that is a separate interest from my trains, and I don't ever see me mixing the two. I'm not really into the licensed cars anyway, but if I were to buy any, they would be something more cheerful than Jason Voorhees.
I think it makes sense for Lionel to continue to dip their toes into the Halloween stuff. The holiday is growing every year and the modelling aspect is as well. Look at how much stuff Department 56 and Lemax have now for their Halloween lines. And I've noticed just on this forum that the number of Halloween layouts increase year after year. I think they are great for kids. But I think the smarter buy is the Area 51 or the new Zombie sets as those can be run more year-round.

Like them or not, Zombies are very popular with younger folk at the moment. Why not
try to get them into trains. No different than Thomas for the little ones.
By itself, I don't know. If they had cataloged it as part of a series with other horror franchise movies, like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Child's Play, Evil Dead, etc., I could see it as part of a themed series.
Of course, we have to remember that this is not aimed at the vast majority of us here on this forum. I think they are aiming at the horror collector market. If I were a dealer, and I had a lot of halloween/horror themed stock, I would set up one time at a horror convention just to see if I could drum up interest in a new market.

If they actually made a House of a 1000 Corpses car and put Capt. Spaulding on it, I'd buy it, if only for that image of Sid Haig in full character.
Of course, we have to remember that this is not aimed at the vast majority of us all us old curmudgeons here on this forum who have forgotten what it is to be a kid with imagination.

Fixed it for you.
No interest at all.

I like the whimsical Halloween items....this one doesn't fit that scenario. I wish Lionel would make a larger Transylvania engine. Right now I use a Lionel Conventional Classic Mil Rd GP9 engine to pull my cars.

Oh yes. How about a pair of flat cars with Goldfinger's Rolls and Bonds Aston Martin DB4 as loads. I'd buy those in a hot second.

Ah, so if people don't like something you like, then they are "old curmudgeons"? Or is it just if someone doesn't care for one of Lionel's products?
I just find this car to be an odd choice for Lionel to be cataloged by itself. It doesn't really fit with any of their Halloween offerings (I don't really equate slasher films with Halloween anyway). If it were part of a series, like I mentioned above, I would buy it (and the rest) as I am a fan of all of those series, but I would only be interested in a series and not a solitary one-time offering. I think it is great that Lionel is looking at other markets, I just wish I knew that this was part of something bigger and not just a stab in the dark...
Andy
I would have preferred a Walking Dead boxcar.

Remember, on February 8th the dead shall rise again!
Tremendously overpriced.

Maybe they are "testing the water", and will run a series of horror movie cars if this one sells.
I don't have the slightest interest in any of these sort of products, and really don't get the interest some folks have.
But if there wasn't a market, Lionel wouldn't keep making the stuff.
To each their own
I would have preferred a Walking Dead boxcar.

That would have the potential to be a BIG seller, and they could do a whole series of character cars. The only question would be whose car would sell better, Darryl or Michonne?
Andy
I'll wait for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 car
If I made a list of the things Lionel makes that don't interest me, this would be close to the top... but also on the list would be:
The Wizard of Oz, Peanuts, Christmas items, Halloween Items, that "artist of light" guy items, whatsherfacewhopaintsLionelpictures items, Norman Rockwell items, all scale locomotives and rolling stock, Pet Shop trains, Thomas, Harry Potter, the list could be endless...
And if Lionel listened to me, they'd be out of business.

Hey, maybe a Christine tie in with a Streets red 58 Plymouth?
Well, I am a bit surprised this car seems to have gotten pretty much a 100% thumbs down. I will admit that I do not care for horror movies (original Frankenstein, Dracula, etc. being the exceptions). So, modern horror themed cars are just not my thing. And, the price of this car scares me away more than the horror theme!
However,
I must say that as I was flipping through the catalog, the Friday the 13th artwork caught my eye immediately! It is very well done. Several times I was pulled back in to look at the artwork again. Had it been priced in the $40 - $50 range, it may have been hard to resist.
I am sure someone out there is going to like this car
It should have been an operating accessory.
Imagine Jason throwing "heads" off a milk reefer.
"Bodies" out of a tie ejector.
Standing on the track ready to kill, getting run down.....then he pops up again!
Friday the 13th
What about a "Something Wicked This way Comes" SET. This movie has it all, a train, a carnival, and kids!
There is a Friday the 13th both this month February and next month March.
I have nothing against fans of this 30 some year old movie but it is not for me. I have some friends who would like it however.
I would buy buy some Star Wars Cars and sets if those were ever made.
Definitely would not buy such a silly item! Way too much a fantasy car.
Lionel would do better sticking to the real trains in miniature then any fantasy theme!

Put me down for a Governor and a Morgan car. Altho the Morgan would be announced in the 20XX catalog, the first prototype would be shown at York a couple years later and the first production models would hit the stores sporadically a few years after that, with a steady flow about 6 months later. (Fans of the show will get this)

I am sick of the Friday the thirteenth and Halloween flicks, 1,2,3,4,5,...I will not be getting one, however SC FI flicks from the 50's and 60's, Godzilla, yes.
I have some Halloween cars and the 13th looks good and should fit right in. I am debating on keeping a Halloween train. I need a strong Halloween engine to pull the line of cars that I have. Nice engine would be nice. The Halloween switcher isn't powerful enough.
A lot of people like those kind of movies. It could be a good seller.
Fine for anybody who likes that sort of thing but personally, it makes me gag.

Silver Lake,
Your reply got me thinking. According to the Star Wars Wiki, an X-wing fighter is 12.5m or 41.25 ft long. Perfect fit on a 50 ft flat car. Stack the wings and engine pods on a second flat and that's a REALLY interesting idea for a project. Now to find a small scale toy or model of the X-wing.
Edit: Finemolds from Japan sells a 1/48 scale X-wing. Too bad it's almost $100 on Amazon. Oh well.

Not for me!
I imagine the licensing cost for a horror film are pretty low. So why not. Everything appeals to somebody. But I agree that the older classic campy horror films should definitely be done. I also like in the catalog the "Mandatory Age 17+" next to this car.
Today is Friday the 13th of February.
There will be a Friday the 13th in March and November.
There will be no Friday the 13th during the Summer Camp months of 2015.
