Stu, it sounds like the motormount screw fell out. Look closer at the bottom of the two sets of drivers. There is a recessed phillips head in the center of the bottom of the driver casting underneath the axle that is directly under the can motor. 

 

Each set of drivers has a motormount screw, you can check the rear driver set and make sure its still there, if it is, snug it up. It is a common problem for these to come loose on occassion, a tiny bit of removable thread locker probably helps.

 

Its merely a matter of slipping the worm gear back into the gearbox and either finding the missing motormount screw or getting a replacement.NBD

 

Is this the older TMCC bigboy? Consequently, Lionel has engineered the newer legacy steamers with a retainer on top of the drive truck to hold the motor in in case the mount screw comes out,  the drawback is this makes it harder to remove the motor for greasing .
