First off thank you for having me in this group. I found tons of useful information just through searches.
Here is my problem
I purchased a Lionmaster Challenger many years ago as is does not run price was good so bought mostly for display. Now trying to get it going.
I believe it to be lionel 6-28077 Union Pacific 3983
when iI opened the shell I found the dcds board completely fried?BBQ in the area of the 4power transistors. and a melted 6 pin molex plug
this is what I have done so far.. Verified all the boards in both the engine and the tender against the part numbers of the lionel parts list. The only board different was the original board that number is 691DCDS-F with FM1 on the chip Figure lionel new part number is an upgrade with an extra 2 pin plug socket.
I was able to identify and trace all the wires from the plug a total of 6 wire being used per the wiring diagram in Lionel service document 45 My question it shows a jumper of 2 green of a green wire across 2 of the plug pins. Is there something else. as I said I am not the original owner and it was definitely taken apart. I did see 2 strands of wire but not connected to each other with traces of green and according to the wiring diagram the green wires are associated with the smoke generator.
I also checked motors they turn free by the flywheel manually and looking inside them copper all nice and clean I do have the new board DCDS
Hope this is not too long and posted to the right place thank you in advance for any help to get this going
