Over the Christmas holiday I plan to do a "major" upgrade to PS-1 for one of my favorites- the MTH N&W 611J old version # MT-1105.  the first picture is the current electronics in the tender and the next four are the unit I plan to install (it has a J sound chip).  Here are the questions I know to ask and suggestions on other details are welcome:

1) Connectors: I have the speaker with a plug on it but need the specs or where to buy several others: I need a volume control  plug, a battery connector / plug, and the plug for the off- on for the reversing feature.  Where is a good place and spec to buy these small connectors- ebay lists a million connectors but can't find these?

2) Installation: One of the pictures shows the bottom of the PS-1 unit, what are best practices for installing it with the aluminum pieces you see?  I planned to use small pieces of wood with double sided foam tape  but  is there  a better idea?

3) The MTH parts list says the pot is a 10k- unless better ideas, I may buy this from MTH, it appears to be available.

4) Things i should watch:  any other words of wisdom welcome!

thanks to all in advance

1. The connectors are Molex 5264 connectors, Digikey has them.  Speakers are standard 8 ohm speakers, they're available all over the place.

2. Typically, the rectifier (the part you have the screw through) is bonded to the chassis with a heat conducting metal bracket or post.

3. Any 10k pot will work, buying one part from MTH will really be expensive with the standard shipping.

PS/1 is very simple in concept, not much to go wrong in the installation if the board set is working.  Make sure you have a good battery whenever you power it up.

If you send me an email at my profile address, I can supply the connectors and the pot for a lot less than ordering the stuff around.  Just be specific as to which connectors you need.

The speaker in the unit will work.  No switch for reverse needed with PS-1.  It is done electronically.  MTH has a bracket that mounts the volume pot and also is used to mount to the regulator.  You don't want to use wood.  You need to heat sink the regulator and the rectifier like the aluminum bracket does.  MTH would use cylindrical Al spacer under the rectifier with a long 4/40 screw.  The regulator would have a brass bracket.  Issue is getting the one high enough to clear your speaker.   Also leave room for battery either on it side or under the board if raised.  G

Looking forward to the photos and video.  For me, it's not "real" until a photo and/or video is posted on the forum--anything less is just talk.

OK, I have to produce the evidence.  Here are a few pictures of the inside of the tender.  I was surprised I kinda / sorta ran out of room and had to put the PS-1 unit at an angle to miss everything. Otherwise something was in the way every time I tried to close it up or there was no good place for the battery.  I also could not find  a good spot for the sound pot either so it has to be accessed by opening the tender too (sitting on double sided tape like the battery).  Otherwise it worked out great.  Sorry the video is a big file but I used an old flip camera- won't do that again!
