I will be traveling from Baltimore to Cooperstown, NY (baseball hall of fame) next month and I would like to know if there are any local train shops on the way?

I guess it would depend, Tom, on the route you're taking. Are you going up towards Binghampton way and then heading northeast to Cooperstown? Or are you going up through the metro NY area to I-87 and making a left at Albany?

If you are going to be near Utica NY stop in K&K Train & Hobby. There is a small store I believe in Rome as well.
We are about an hour and 40 minutes west of Cooperstown via the historic Cherry Valley Turnpike (then Route 92 in Cazenovia to Syracuse).
Here's a Weaver flat car complete with a minor league baseball!

Tom,
Please take a picture of Billy Maz's booth in the Base Ball Hall of Fame and post it for us to see, I have not had the time to visit and see it yet.

If you're going up I-81 then, you'll be passing through the Scranton area, so a trip to Grzyboski's Train Store would be very doable.
Check out Lantz Hobby Shop 3312 South Main Street Horseheads, NY 607 215-0019.
They are not far from Elmira and have a great selection at some of the cheapest prices in the industry.
If you are heading up I-81, there's Gryzboski in Moosic and Steamtown in Scranton.
If you go to steam town right across the street is Scanton hobby shop real nice store and Jack one of the owners is a great guy , we had more fun at train shows but I better not go into that :-)
