I need some help. I have a Premier Hiawatha  that was converted to ps3 this spring. It’s been running fine up until now. The board in the locomotive fell out it’s holder and shorted. The headlight went out and the smoke unit only works on high.

I’m not sinking anymore money into this. Can I remove the board and smoke unit and be ok with the rest of the electronics? The sounds are fine and it runs fine. I can wire 18V LEDs to the various lights and run off track power.

I don’t want the messed up board in the engine to somehow create a problem with what’s in the tender.

Thx

What was it converted from?  Only the PS/2 models had the MUX board.

You can't totally remove the MUX board, the tach will stop working and you'll have a runaway.   If the smoke only runs on high, I suspect damage to the tender PS/32 board.

I'd obtain a new MUX board and install it, it's the simplest repair and it's not that prohibitively expensive.
