Good Evening Guys and Gals,

I recently purchased a Lionel Legacy SW-7 switcher and it runs just fine on the layout. I have a Rail King SW-1500 and it stops at just about every turn out on the layout. Is this a common problem? How do I rectify it? I love that little unit. I use atlas 3 rail track.

One thing you might check individually is whether power is going from each trucks pickup rollers into the engine itself. Take a "hot" power source wire and apply to each pickup roller while simultaneously holding a ground wire to the locomotive chassis.

It sounds like one truck's pickup rollers are not connected and letting the loco die while crossing gaps in the turnout.

Since the SW-7 works OK, and the SW-1500 does not, turn them over and see what are the differences in roller locations, etc.  Any difference may point to the cause of the problem, and you may be able to 'fix' it w/o too much problem. If the locations, angles, etc. are the same, then a roller itself, or both,  may not be working properly. And don't overlook the wheels and their location with respect to the rails and gaps.
