Figured I'd show off my first attempt at a trackside scene for my Shay. I had a broken cheapy caboose and literally just took scraps, popsicle sticks, dixie cups, toothpicks, old car model parts, and dirt / weeds from the backyard and cobbled it together. I'm especially proud of the steam donkey that is mostly popsicle sticks, thread spools, and broken metal garden light tubes. The little Coke machine is carved out of a wine cork. Put some 99c LEDs in the caboose to light the windows as well.

Looks great! It always amazes me how scrap pieces can come together to make a nice looking display. That’s why this hobby is never boring. If you don’t have $ to buy some more accessories at the current moment, just break out the box of scrap parts, some glue, and some paint and have at it.
