Hi, new to this whole model train thing due to my 3 year old grandson. We've come to find out many of my wife's ancestors worked with the Union Pacific. We have a picture of steam locomotive and the engineer is probably my wife's 3d great uncle. So what I'm looking for is a model train that closely matches the train. Of course, if it were a Union Pacific loco then that would be best. The Train is a UP 4 -6-0 (Drive wheel diameter: 61 in and cylinders: 20 x24 in) #1809; according to the Utahrails.net, the train was built as UPRy 1809, builder number 598 in May 1890 by New York; to UP 1809 in 1898; to UP 1309 in 1915; vacated in 1926. The picture is believed to have been taken in the North Platte, Nebraska UP railroad yard. O scale; Lionel would be preferred model manufacture. Thanks, Ken

I did a product locator search at MTH for UP 4-6-0 and came up with this.

Thanks for the information but the MTH train does not look like the train in pic
Lionel doesn't make an 1890's 4-6-0. This is the closest you're going to find:

MTH has offered this model in several road names over the years, but not in Union Pacific.

thanks!!!
Williams makes a UP “early” 4-6-0. Very nice! JohnA
Hey! I was surprised anybody offered a UP 4-6-0, since l might buy one l liked the looks of. To find one similar to your heritage, slight chance in two rail O scale brass, much better in old HO brass. Promontory Point locos have been modeled in O three rail, by MTH?, but l THINK both locos were 4-4-0's...but vaguely think one MIGHT have been a 4-6-0?
