Working on upgrading a PS2 V5 with a PS2/3 stacker board. The fuel tank takes a 45mm speaker. What is a good source/part number for (4 ohm) (0.5 watt) (45.0mm Dia.) speakers or equivalent?
Thanks

How tall can the speaker be? The actual model number helps us help you.
John,
The original 16 OHM speaker is 9mm thick MTH part number BF-0000013
Engine is 30-2188-1 SW-1500 Switcher
Well, the bad news is, MTH doesn't have anything in 4 ohms that will fit that one, so you'll have to troll the Internet and find one. I had a source, but they don't have that size anymore. Not sure what I'll do the next one that some in for repair, it'll probably get an 8 ohm speaker as they're easier to find.
John
Thanks for the information and time to answer my question. Just wondering would 8 Ohm 9w from PS1 engine MTH speaker number BF-4500013 if that would work or is the 9w going to cause problems?
I agree ~ Troll the internet. There's guys using several Iphone speakers in their HO scale locos. That SW1500 tank is very small.
If you can't find a 4 ohm one of the correct size, I'd consider the 8 ohm one. Of course, when you look up this part...
I think you need to look outside MTH for a suitable speaker.

Thanks, yes I have found a few on internet that are 8 OHM 45mm but the walts are not 5w, they range from anywhere from 2 to 9w. I am sorry for my ignorance but does it have to be exactly 5w or is their a safe range that will not cause damage?
Mark
Any of the 2W through 5W will work. Truthfully, the 5W rated speakers typically don't have the same volume as the lower rated ones, it comes down to efficiency. Obviously, if you blast the 2W ones with super high volume, they may croak.
FWIW, the speakers used in PS/1, which had plenty of volume, were rated at .2 watts.

Thanks for tip on PS1 speakers I found one in another diesel switch I have that is 45mm. I want to get this train back together for a boy so he can run it at Christmas.
Thanks again,
Mark
