Hello,
I am hoping that someone can post a really recent picture of Santa Fe 3463. This is the Santa Fe 4-6-4 in Topeka. I am going to be pretty close to her in July and I am wondering about taking the time to stop. I saw her a long time ago and she was painted in primer red at the time. (I am assuming a rust protectant paint)

Have you tried a Google search? I'm pretty sure I have seen some photos posted, about a year ago, on that site for some crackpot renewable fueled high speed steam locomotive project out of Minnesota. They were going to mover that big Hudson to Minnesota and convert it to burn their new, space-age "pellets" or something.
Google showed a few pictures, but I am wondering how she looks now. Did the group that was going to make her "space-age" make any big changes to her. I don't want to drive out of the way to see an engine that looks like something out of Back to the Future. (insert flux capacitor joke here)

No. All they reportedly accomplished was to clean up the site, and sort of clean up the locomotive, in preparation for movement/shipment. That never happened, as there is now a big legal battle over the "city giving it away" when they may not have had a legal right to do that. Big mess going on in the courts over the locomotive, the last I heard.
I don't want to drive out of the way to see an engine that looks like something out of Back to the Future. (insert flux capacitor joke here)

Last time I saw the engine - 2013 - it had been cosmetically improved and looked fairly presentable. For years it had been getting shabbier and shabbier, but volunteers finally ended that shameful chapter of its existence.
To me, the issue is simple: If you want to actually see how big a Santa Fe 3460 Class 4-6-4 was, up close, this is your chance.
