All,

I am constructing an O scale slag dumping pit.  The slopes will be carved from pink foam sprayed with white / gray paint.  I am looking for material to sprinkle on the ground that will simulate cold, previously poured slag.  Please see photo below.  Again I’m interested in the stuff that has cooled and hardened and shattered into pieces.  Can you suggest a specific material and its supplier that would do this?

Thank you.

Post some photos of yours when you do it.

You know Dave, that's funny.  I was thinking about using real slag, too.  Hey, I know where I can get some!

And yes, the bell-shaped stuff did happen as a result of the slag cooling too fast and coming out of the thimble car in one large block.

Nonetheless, I'm still weighing my options and looking for suggestions.
