fellas,  got some ideas with roadbuilding.  roof shingles was one,  what other materials have you all used?  I previously used masonite and painted it.  it worked ok, but I had to cut it with the table saw and jig saw, I thought foam core might work ok, but painting that material might not work well.  of course I guess you can form them witha morter mix and make them that way.  I could similate pennsylvania's pothole, saw-cut bumpy, poor patching, water line sinking streets!!!

so not sure because its a temporary layout.

thanks

Chris

now that is a good idea.  the sandpaper trick.  I could use some foam board and then glue the sandpaper to that and use that coating.  your roads look real charlie.  nice job.  lets see if I can get an effect like that.

im still in the early stages, painted the platforms and now getting into the track layout scheme.  then the roads are next after I figure out the building arrangement.

cheers!

Chris
