making streets what do you use to make them?

Black poster board's pretty cheap.  Easy to cut.  No painting.  Available at drugstores, dollar stores, etc.

Add yellow or white lines with colored pencils.

i bought thin sheet foam at a hobby lobby.  I got it in grey.  for gravel, i did kitty litter.   

For asphalt roads, using a fine grit sand paper coated with woodland scenics asphalt coat turned nice.

Or if you have a plaster or hydeocal surface that is very smooth then the sandpaper overlay is not really required.

now that is a good idea.  the sandpaper trick.  I could use some foam board and then glue the sandpaper to that and use that coating.  your roads look real charlie.  nice job.  lets see if I can get an effect like that. 

im still in the early stages, painted the platforms and now getting into the track layout scheme.  then the roads are next after I figure out the building arrangement.

im hitting staples first to get foamboard and then to autosupermarket for sheets of sandpaper.  I can get bulk there sheets are cheap unlike the 3M packages for 8 bucks. 

nice roads Charlie. what did you use to adhere the sandpaper to the base?

Thinking back, believe white glue undiluted, with some weight added to hold it flat.

very nice and weathering is great.  looks like real streets even with oil drips!  I am going to try to make potholes and bad patch work spots!  haha.
