"Man-Made"? switch machines??

I believe the name is "Man Made"....it is a DC motor that turns a long screw.
I have several questions......
1. Are these motors the STALL motors like in Tortoise? Or do I need limit switches to regulate the travel?
2. I could use two more? Big Project!!!

Jim,

We had some of these on our layout. They tended to overrun the limit switches. Replaced them all.

I am going to experiment with them to open doors on my R'house. I don't know if I want to open all four doors or just keep it simple. If I get them to work(reliably) I will need two more.

You might want to consider R/C servos. There is a discussion going over on the 3-rail forum right now about using them as turnout machines.

I was attracted to these because of the possible long throw. I believe I will need 1 inch to an 1 1/2 inch of travel.
