Was curious about this #5050M train set from marx. I've only ever seen one other set in pictures. Sorry for all the pics but I was trying to get the whole set. I have the original box and some individual set boxes from this set. I also found out it would have had the "camo" style tunnel and the dummy switch tower that would have came with the set when it was new. The box is a large box with #5050M stamped on the side. The engine has a weight in the back as normal for a deluxe set but it has a larger than normal weight in the motor mount tray from the factory and its the only one I've seen like it that's that big. This set has the deluxe engine 2-4-2 but a regular tender and 17 total freight cars. The other one I saw pictured had the same exact configuration of cars. I placed the small repop advertisement boxes in the gondola cars. I guess my question is why marx made this particular set and why the oddball car choices? I'm guessing they didn't make many of this set # and curious where it would have been sold from. Thanks guys and it will be fun to talk about this set.
