Hi all,

I am a Flyer guy, but a friend asked me to look at his old Marx 666. I took it apart cleaned and lubed everything and put it back together.

Woo hoo, the chassis runs like a bear, and smokes like a chimney.  That is until I put the shell back on and now I have a direct short.

Can somebody who knows these Loco's suggest what the problem could be?  I am seeing metal trailing trucks, metal pilot frames, and don't really know where to start.

Thank you in advance,

Aflyer

The shell is zinc, also. Is it touching anything - like a bare wire joint - when you put it on? Or forcing other wires to touch at uninsulated points?

Since it is OK without the shell, the running gear - trucks, frame and so on - is probably not the culprit.

D500,

Yep I found i,t it was the E unit wire board touting the shell.  little piece of electricians tape, and an adjustment and we are good to go.

Thank you for your response,

Flyer
