She's done..."time to take a little off of the sides, Floyd". I changed the colors I used with the brick from the previous Mayberry Courthouse project. I really like this color combination. After power watching the later episodes of Andy Griffith show, the ones in color, I decided I didn't care for the washed out paint scheme that was used. So I used the same colors, just a little differently. I also installed a warm white LED over each recessed door. The recessed doors are custom, the Grandt Line ones were too tall. Each window has glass. I think I will build dividers inside to individually light each shop on the 1st floor and the upper windows. Interesting bit of trivia, next to Floyd's Barbershop was the TV repair. There was no door to get into the TV repair! I love the magic of TV!

I love this show, and I love the buildings. I think the Grand Theater is next...

Looks really good. Interior ideas/sources? We gotta have an interior per Paula. Have a Miller barber pole. I'll see what we can find. Will be fun.

Any idea how many chairs were in Floyd's shop? You have watched shows recently. What other items?

Not sure if Floyd ever visited Manteo or not. Aunt Bea was there some and Don Knotts was a regular. Like most places, Manteo/Outer Banks have really changed in recent years.

Back in the day, Andy did a lot for the town. Got his start there acting in the Lost Colony. It still plays every summer.

Interiors are a matter of interpretation. The exterior sets were nothing more than walls. The interior of the Courthouse shows a window in the 1st cell- that would have been a window directly into the barbershop... The mayors office was upstairs, yet the side door to the courthouse came from the back of the jail, and there were no interior stairs... The fun of TV Land.

All interior filming occurred in a sound stage. I do have some ideas, though-
Floyd's generally had 2 chairs, with 1 barber chair. Except I did notice additional chairs in the episode where the manicurist came to town...

I think these buildings allow themselves to some very nice detailing & interiors.

I finally made some lights for the front of my courthouse. I searched online, but nothing! These are made with warm white LED's and I have them scaled down to about a 12"-15" light in real life. I couldn't be happier!

I would have mounted the pair of them on the courthouse, but I couldn't find a small enough drill bit! They will mount almost flush, and have an adjustable trim piece for the wall. I will just trim down the stem once epoxied in. So, I shall visit the hardware store and hopefully by the weekend, this will be a respectable part of the town again.

I wish I had these for my AmeriTowne Fire Station project, but, at least I will have them for the Isaly's diner I am making out of the AmeriTowne Police station...

Funny- it is one of my favorite Trivia questions...
They do.
Remember, it was filmed in California, but set in North Carolina. The train station on the set was an unknown station in real life that was served by...(are you sitting down?) The Union Pacific... Yup- The UP has a station in Mayberry, North Carolina.
"Nothin' could be finer then the Union Pacific in Carolina"

I built some lights for the front when I couldn't find the style I needed- these are LED's, with a recessed LED in the ceiling.

I also repainted the trim, but still am not happy with the color. I guess that is the nice part of designing & constructing something- you tweak it until you're happy. I am pretty happy with the lights...

lights

lights2I went with LED's for the wall lights and ceiling light because I didn't want to worry about heat issues inside such a small plastic shade. I wired in resisters to handle 12v, but I am running these on 9 & I think they throw the perfect light. The warm white color turned out nice.

Now that the barbershop is done I will cut a single piece of masonite to mount the buildings- put in some sidewalks, benches, etc. It should be a pretty respectable diorama.

My wife just said, "That is a lot of empty space inside. How are you going to fill it up. Doesn't the town council meet at night in the courthouse."

I guess that the mayor has an office on the second floor. Have the furniture for that. But what the heck do you do downstairs?

Looks really good. The lights are perfect.

Was there a second tenant in the barber shop? Thinking about an old drug store unless there was something else. And maybe a pool table in between to serve as a wall. Only play after barbering is over.

Wil be fun.

The Mayor was upstairs, even though they never showed how to get upstairs...
