They're a name brand power supply, so I don't see any issue with the power supply. I can't comment on how they're to be used as far as potential problems.
Not related to model trains, but I bought a 24V meanwell to replace the failed stock PSU on my Prusa MK3S 3D printer. I've been using it since Sept '20 and no issues so far! It is a little loud when the fan kicks in, but it's in the garage so no big deal. I doubt it would be an issue for a model railroad application either.
For some perspective, my Weller is 60 watts. I'm guilty also, when my tracks are up I use a power supply from an old PC stereo, 13vac and 4 amps, just for powering switches!
Thanks guys - I am guilty as well of cannablizing old computers, stereos, etc., for power supplies, but these come in their own little cages that allows air circulation.
I'm more concerned about the heat generated by a 4 amp short from my repurposed supply. I probably only need hundreds of milliamps so I'm planning to adding a breaker/fuse in between.
