My 10-by-5 layout, the New York, Trumbull & Boston Railroad, is on the cover of OGR Run 304 (February/March 2019) which also includes an article. The layout models a single-track New England branch line in the 1940s and early 1950s. The north side of the layout has a tunnel and a scratch-built truss bridge and trestle crossing a river-valley lined by four factories. The south side of the layout models a small downtown with cobblestone streets. Comments on the article appreciated.

Congratulations to you on the publication of your article and photos.

Note the publisher may not allow your posting of photos in the forum if the same photos were part of the article they published. Might want to check on that.

I know the several of my articles which have been published in O Scale Trains and O scale Resources have all had this restriction.

These photos are similar to those in the article but are new and were taken on 01/11/2019 - after Run 304 arrived by mail. Article and layout pictures are, and will remain, exclusive to OGR and Forum. Many more photos in article.

Congratulations, MELGAR. I am very happy for you. It is quite exciting to be presented in OGR, so I know you are very, very pleased. I hope you have ordered multiple copies of your Run. I ordered several dozen, of each Run, so that we could give them to guests who came to our home to see the layout. If I may offer that advice, get yourself many copies of your treasure. People will treasure them from you.

Melgar's article and photos in OGR are a must read. The article is very clear and beautifully written.

In case you folks didn't know, Melgar is a retired aerospace engineer who, among other things, worked on the Hubble Space Telescope, and taught aerospace engineering as a college professor.

He applies the same precision and skill to his modeling, photos, writing, and teaching of modeling as he did to his work as an aerospace engineer.

Melgar, your layout is absolutely superb.  Can you tell us exactly what materials went into the construction of your truss bridge and trestle?  Both structures are very realistic and appear very sturdy.

Thank you OKHIKER. Both bridges made from basswood strips with various cross sections. Reinforcing gusset plates on the truss bridge (1/32-inch thick basswood sheet) make it very strong. Trestle uses 1/4-inch square cross section (one foot full scale) for the columns - so also quite strong.

Melgar, that is a neat little layout, it just showed ME that I have no excuse for not having a layout.  I really like what you've done and it is just chuck full of wonderful structures and great looking scenery.  If I missed it, I apologize, what radius are you using, is it 48"?  Terrific job on it and as soon as my copy shows up at my door step, I'll be sure to look at your article first.

Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

Atlas O-54 on 60-inch table width... Outer rail about 3 inches from rear edge of table, 1.5 inches from front edge of table.
