Just having some fun and printed off some ads on regular white printer paper. Then I stuck them on the billboard, turned off the room lights and lit up the Menards billboard. I think it works pretty good so you can include ads that interest you and work for your time period.

You could always try some of the ideas mentioned in The Billboard Song. 
I have one too. But I thought it looked too big on the layout so I cut a hole in my retaining wall and mounted in the wall. I made my own Billboard, WELCOME TO PAPA'S TRAIN'S. I can still change it back to the Billboards that came with it. I just used color photos for the Billboard. It works and looks great night and day.
