I removed the platform/base from the Menards Milwaukee Road engine house. While I'm not familiar with Grandpa's House, I imagine the two are similar. I used a hand saw as well as a Dremel with a cut off wheel to remove it. There were no problems, but I strongly recommend you wear a mask and eye protection. The debris that results is impressive.
