I have changed my layout. In order to squeeze in an older Menards structure, Grandpa’s House I would like to remove the platform to make it fit. Has anyone done that without destroying the structure?

I removed the platform/base from the Menards Milwaukee Road engine house. While I'm not familiar with Grandpa's House, I imagine the two are similar. I used a hand saw as well as a Dremel with a cut off wheel to remove it. There were no problems, but I strongly recommend you wear a mask and eye protection. The debris that results is impressive.
By the way, if you search for "Backdating a Menards Engine House", you'll see how it came out.

The MR engine house is similar to those found all over Northern WI
