Menards Rock Island Boxcar Pictures

One issue that kinda bugs me......Others chime in with what they think so Menard's can know which way is more popular.......

I do not like the painted ladders.......GREAT toy train look.....but I prefer body colored ladders.....roof walk too.......Others??? Thanks

Yeah, the painted ladders and roof walk don't work for me at all.

I'd skip buying it because of that.

Paint the door track, fine (I could change that)...then mess up the ladders and walk. Not a good trade-off. Door track color can be more easily massaged without making a mess than the other parts.

If you look at several of the past new ones ,you can see they are all different.

You can remove the black or paint over the black. 

A revision of the concept would be to paint a black "shadow" on the edge of the ladders to make them stand out. 

Black inside just the holes of the roofwalk, instead of the entire roofwalk, to make it stand out.

If you ask me? and I know a lot wont, but I think the car looks GREAT ! For the price they are selling you can find it anywhere else. Also for that price I can buy me some paint if I wanted to and repaint it. But I wont cause it a great car at a great price! I am by no means a rivet counter, I just enjoy the hobby!

Received mine today, the color matches Lionel pretty close..Tru-Color paint not so close.. One car they forgot to put "The Rock" on one side but I have a decal for that..

I like the colors the way they are. If you want to change it then that's up to the modeler.

Lee, you have a "collector's item" factory error.  I would leave it like that... but its up to you.

Matching the ROCK blue used is about impossible. THAT"S why I asked....if most like the ladders and roofwalk painted a contrasting color...so be it!!!! I'll pass on the models done like this and stick to the models that have the prototype style paint. But thanks for answering!  

The roofwalks would have been removed after 1970. So, you could paint the entire roof a faded color if the black paint is too much.

Roof black, ladders don't matter to me unless the grandkids start complaining about it! LOL

They look good to me! The color appears to be close to that of my highly prototypical N5c! I used to see these at Blue Island all the time.
