Can anyone give me an idea on how tall this Michigan Central Coal tower is. It is located on Highway 12 in Michigan City, Indiana a very short distance from my house. I want to build one. I estimate it to be around 90' tall which would make it a 36" scale model?

I'm surprised it's still standing after all these years. I wonder why it wasn't torn down decades ago.
An F40 locomotive is about 15' above rail height, and overhead clearance is about what? 22 or 23 feet? I would say you are very close.
I stink in math, but I get 22 1/2" equaling 90 feet in O scale...what am I doing wrong? I just divide the feet by one quarter (four) and equate that to inches...
You are correct -- 90 feet is 22.5 inches.
rattler21 posted:Jim, A google search will give you several resources, one of which is a schematic with dimensions. You and I are using different math. I figure a 100' tall tower would be 25" on our 1:48 layout.
