mimic of Lionel switch remote | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I'm interested in making a more compact version of the Lionel r/cc switch control. There are four wires in the bundle. Ground(Black), Thru(green), Out(red) and RSC lights(yellow). I understand that the operation of thru/out and their relationship to ground ... momentary switches to command the movement. The rsc lights I also understand .. -4.5v or 4.5v to indicate thru or out.

My question is this ... I'd like to create a circuit that lights the right colored led ... red or green ... depending on the voltage polarity sensed between rsc lights and ground? Can anyone point me to such a circuit?

Any pointers ? Am I in the right forum/topic?
