I was watching an old episode of "King of Queens" that has as it's subject a husband who spends all his time playing with trains and going to train shows.  There are a few good shots of a train layout at home and at a train show.  It is also a cautionary tail about not getting too involved with your train hobby.  Some of us might  feel that we can identify a little too closely with the train addict. There is a real layout disaster at the train show towards the end that is very funny.

We talked about this episode a while back. Doug's Dad comes to Queen's to go to a train show. He has with him what looks like a Lionel Hudson IIRC.

But this is not the only trains in the show. Doug's friend Spence has trains on display on shelves in his apartment. They are not talked about but seen a number of times.

Someone on the show was into or at least liked trains. If you have the DVD's the behind the screen info shows they were an interesting group!!

Interesting that it's from the first season.  Feels more like a one-act play than run-of-the-mill sitcom.

I chuckled occasionally, but found it quite sad overall.  Wife neglected for 30 years -- apparently for most of the marriage.  And tragically, son not EVER allowed to play with trains.

Negative portrayal of "the hobby" itself and result just the opposite of the old Father/Son bonding marketed by Lionel.
