Model trains in an episode of "King of Queens"

We talked about this episode a while back. Doug's Dad comes to Queen's to go to a train show. He has with him what looks like a Lionel Hudson IIRC.

But this is not the only trains in the show. Doug's friend Spence has trains on display on shelves in his apartment. They are not talked about but seen a number of times.

Someone on the show was into or at least liked trains. If you have the DVD's the behind the screen info shows they were an interesting group!!

Very funny!  I think the ultimate toy train fanatic was Joe McDoakes in one of his shorts from the early 1950's - So You Want to be......(I forgot the title!).  Anyway, the best scene is when he goes into a hobby shop and orders "a round of track for the boys".

i have seen that show number of times and notice its a Railking Pennsy K4 pacific engine.  Thye must have rewired it to run without the tender.

It's more likely it was Lionel semi-scale conventional K4 since it ran without the tender.

Any idea what the name of the episode was, or episode number. I want to check it out!

Episode 20..but what season?

Interesting that it's from the first season.  Feels more like a one-act play than run-of-the-mill sitcom.

 

I chuckled occasionally, but found it quite sad overall.  Wife neglected for 30 years -- apparently for most of the marriage.  And tragically, son not EVER allowed to play with trains.  

 

Negative portrayal of "the hobby" itself and result just the opposite of the old Father/Son bonding marketed by Lionel.
