Very nice Steve... I've always liked the Canadian Pacific train with the old-style Crooks cars.  I have very little Modern Marx because I've concentrated on the old 4-wheel cars for my tiny O Gauge layout.  But it's really nice stuff, I always enjoy it.

I do have a couple of pieces.  You have in the display a few of their bridges.  They made that bridge in the Rutland Railroad herald - in both green and red - and I thought it was a must-have for this layout in Vermont.  The green one is in use as a one-lane road bridge on the Standard Gauge layout.

Yes, the only ways I knew of to get info during their manufacture was Marx' ads in that other toy train magazine and the company's website.  They were enough for me to spend all available funds though.

The story of New Marx from Jim and Debbie Flynn as well as the later Ameritrains Company is on the home page of their Yahoo website.

And if you think Marx is expensive, try accumulating these ones. I got in on the ground floor so to speak and started collecting while Ameritrains was still in business. Missed out on all the really really good stuff though. Couldn't afford it them and really can't afford it now. Happy with my Thor though.

I love the lithograph on the new Marx cars and locomotives.

Its kinda funny that while I don't really dig the modern Lionel tinplate made by MTH, I really like the new Marx stuff.

Unfortunately, I ended up selling my couple of Ameritrain sets to pay for some other purchases.

When I complete the new layout for my scale trains, I hope to replace the sets I sold.

I made that mistake also. Sold a few cause I needed the cash. Cost me a lot more to replace them than what I sold them for.
The ones that cost me the most, are some of the earlier ones like trolley's and interurban's. I was not into trains when they were released and of those made, few people are parting with them. Once I got started, I bought a lot directly from Marx Trains and one of their dealers. Also been lucky, when Alan Miller purged his New Marx collection, I got quite a bit of it. Also got a few hard to find ones from Barb Jones.

Jim O, thanks the site promo, I need it. I have the Thor and caboose, but did not buy the AEC set. That is definitely a regret. They sell for a lot of $$$$ if you ever see them.

The only two pieces I bought were two flat cars that most closely approximated the

original 3/16th tilt/fork coupler Marx.  I thought most (but dunno if all) of the rest

of it was aimed at 6" collectors, of which I am not one.  I do have a sneaky notion that

there might have been other items produced in which I would have been interested,

but were not (widely) advertised.

No, no, no.  Just check Steve's photos showing the Pepsi boxcar, Sears boxcar, Marx Trains boxcar, the beautiful SP passenger set, etc.  I do think you're right in that they may have made more 6-inch than scale, but a humungous amount of scale was made.  Wish I had them all - they are great.

If you ordered direct from Marx Trains, you could get your choice of coupler. Their version of the twist coupler also had a slot in it like the original Marx plastic twist coupler. You could then run twist or tab together. I have a large variety of both types. The Marx Trains scale cars are a bit shorter than the original Marx scale cars, but considering the wide variety of lengths in real train cars, I did not see it as an issue.

I have two white sets. 10251S and 10251M. I do not have 10251C.
The difference is the hopper, S= Soo, M= Monon & C= C&O.
My Monon set has the special pipe car, my Soo set has the pipe car and the reel car. Not concerned about finding the C&O set unless it came real cheap. I passed at buying the AEC when they were still available, that was a BIG mistake, but did get the Thor. All 3 colors of the trolley, the CTA set and the PRR Coal Drag were probably the toughest ones for me to get.

When New Marx first started, there was some passenger set of those cars that looked

like the Civil War cars, I think as some sort of commerative set for York?.  I ordered it, because it was shown with tilt fork couplers.  It came with tab and slot.... I was not amused and complained to Flynn about that, and lost total interest. I did later pick up the two flats when I happened to see them, but did not see anything else, that met my criteria, as did the flat cars, but wasn't looking,
