I was poking around on ebay looking for some JST connectors and came across this JST comparison. I shamelessly copied, and I am posting it here in case it's of any help to others. I for one am constantly struggling with trying to keep up with the myriad of connector types and sizes that seem to proliferate like dandelions.

JST Connectors-4 types

The two on the right are the types that we normally see used for trains. The PH2 are 2mm pitch and the XH are 2.54mm pitch (0.1"). They are both available in 2, 3, 4, & 5 pin varieties, and larger if you search around a bit.

The PH style also comes in a 1.25mm size (not shown) that is really handy for low current applications (<500ma), like passenger car led lighting for instance.

Type SYP is commonly used in RC aircraft and cars from what I know.

I have also taken the liberty of including the following information (just to have it all in one place) originally posted by grj in another thread:

"The JST-XH 2.54mm is a separate type altogether, compatible with Williams.

The SBC-2/SBH-2 2.5mm (AllElectronics) are compatible with MTH PS-1 and PS-2.

The JST-EH 2.54mm is the same as the Lionel Leoco 2.54mm connector.

The JST-PH 2mm is the same as the widely used 2mm connector on Lionel stuff, don't know who originally made that one.  Compatible with MTH PS-2 boards. For female pin sockets search ebay for “JST-PH 2mm crimp”.

The JST-ZH 1.5mm is compatible with the 1.5mm connectors used on a lot of Legacy stuff.

Add in the Molex PicoBlade 1.25mm, and you have most of the connectors covered.

The Molex Micro-Fit 3.0mm connectors are the black latching connectors used for power to motherboards and to motor driver boards."

Hopefully others will chime in here with additional information.

I just checked and Digikey does stock them. The 2 pin housing is PN 455-1000-ND and costs a dime each.

If you only need two connectors I would go with two PN 455-3104-ND pre-crimped 22 AWG wires 12" long (50 cents each) with a pre-crimped socket on each end. Just insert em into the housings and cut the wire where you need to and connect to your coupler wiring. Easy peasy.
