I like to paint trains so I buy some pretty rough looking cars from Ebay and redo them. This is my latest, and a preview picture of whats next after this one is finished.
I've Always admired the D&H I love NY cars even though they are totally in the wrong era for the Standard Gauge trains that I am working with. The first picture is a 514 refrigerator car that I got on ebay, the paint was flaking off but it is a solid non rusty car, I.E. the perfect starting point for me.
The second picture is the disassembled car painted with the first coat of D&H blue ready to be masked for the white to be added.
Tomorrow I should have a picture of the masked and painted car and the decaling.
This last picture is a 117 caboose that will be transformed in a B&M caboose to go with my other 100 series cars.
Since this is rather plain I'm also adding a few details like a chimney, roof ladders, Brake wheels, an air tank between the trucks and stairs like you find on some 17 cabooses. I'll probably also ad window sills, windows and doors.
My next project after the caboose will be a steam engine if I can find a reasonably priced starting point. I'll do a 390E steam engine in the B&M Speed Lettering scheme. I already have the tender to start working on so I'm looking for and engine that runs and is in restorable condition. If anyone has a 390 they need to get rid of please let me know.
