The MRC pure power transformer itself is very good, but the panel with the push buttons (horn, bell, reverse) is weak electrically. At our club, we had so many failures of this panel that we opened the transformers up and bypassed the panel. The circuit breakers are weak as well. Multiple triggering of the circuit breakers weakens them.
You have to factor in that, in a club setting, many different people are operating this transformer and many of them are not as gentle, or sensible, or good with their hands as others might be.
If you are the only one using the transformer, and are not a ham-fisted clod, you should be OK.
I have an MRC and love it. So much that when I had a chance to buy a second one at auction (LHS items) I bought it as a spare.
Is the Z4000 a better transformer? Maybe, but you would be hard pressed to find one for $250 like with the MRC.
