I recently received Menard's O scale fire damaged engine house. While the ports to plug in the power supply for this building are readily visible, the problem is when I plug in Menard's 4.5 V three-outlet power adapter to the side power port of this recently purchased building the led ember lights don't glow. I get the same result if I plug into the power port on the bottom of the engine house - nada, no lights, so I'm guessing there must either be an on/off power button or switch somewhere that's been covered by the building's scenery or else the building is DOA, the power adapter is DOA, or possibly both are DOA. Does this building actually have an on/off control button or switch for its led ember lights and if it does, please tell or show me where that power button/switch is located? Thanks.

No replies yet so i guess this building isn't that popular a seller for Menard's?
Kenn, I have not installed mine yet, but I was figuring that next to the side plug port there is a button to change the multiple lighting patterns and then next to it looks like an on-off switch. Maybe yours does not have that?
Rick
I'd guess it just wasn't noticed by the right folks yet. I don't know if they have on/off switches or not, it is possible they do not have one.
Testing the power supply with a meter or bulb would be step #1.
Rick, mine doesn't have a button or switch in that location.
Kenn, sorry. They must have put out a later version. I know it adds to the frustration, but here is a picture of the side of mine with the port, the press button, and what I am assuming is an on/off switch.

Some came like Rick's....some did not.
Mine has no switches at all.......on or off......and no pattern control.
It just comes on when the layout is powered and stays on.
Fine by me.....not sure how much I would have ended up using the light pattern option anyway.

Thanks, Rick, I found a tiny slider switch beneath a clump of grass to the left of the power port as shown on yours so ambers now light. Unfortunately, no button on mine as yours has so I assume mine is a later version where Menard's eliminated the button. Does button allow you to change lighting effects? Mine only has red leds on the floor that light up constantly without the changing light intensity simulating glowing embers which is currently cited as a feature of this building in its description on Menard's website, "Interior lit with glowing red LED lights that simulate burning embers and include multiple lighting patterns (steady on, blinking and fade)." I'm disappointed that this building had such a feature and for whatever reasons Menard's chose to eliminate it since now those lit embers look cheap and unrealistic. Had I known this feature had been eliminated, I wouldn't have purchased this building and although just opened, I've had mine too long to return it and I'd resent having to pay return postage for an item that was falsely advertised.
Wonder how much more, if any, Menard's would have had to increase the cost of this building to continue including that features button? For the added realism it gave, I would have gladly paid such an increase.IMO, this is one instance where a later version of a product is not "new and improved" and isn't how it is advertised by the manufacturer/seller!

Soo Line, thanks for your very helpful response. However I'm admittedly not as accepting of this change in model features as you are and in fact feeling bamboozled since when I purchased this building it's description on Menard's website stated "Interior lit with glowing red LED lights that simulate burning embers and include multiple lighting patterns (steady on, blinking and fade)."
Btw, this same description is still on Menard's site as I'm typing this and I believe that when any product's features are changed its advertising should reflect such changes. Current advertising seems deceptive and misleading, or at the very least, faulty to me!
Just one thought. Have you asked the Menards Guy, perhaps by e mail?
