Buddy

I'll second Dave's recommendation although I have done all my PS3 DCC operation on NCE.  If you have a DCC system that is sized for O scale you should be fine.

When PS3 first came out in HO there where all kinds of claims about its lack of compatibility with other DCC equipment.  Most of those claims were from guys who didn't own anything with PS3.  People who run PS3 locomotives tend to be very happy with them.

The first several HO PS3 locomotives lacked custom speed mapping capability and MTH responded by adding it in later releases and offering a software update for early HO SD70ACes.  All the O scale PS 3 locomotives have the ability to be custom speed mapped in DCC.

Slow speed control for the GP35s will be like any other MTH 4 axle diesel.  MTH says that the speed control is smooth down to 4 smph.  Most operators find that their locomotives are good down to 2-3 smph.

I have done a lot of switching with Proto2 and Proto3 locomotives, most of it under DCS control.  I like it and can run a highly productive yard or road switching job with any 4 axle Protosound diesel.  The productivity comes from a mechanically sound locomotive, the control system, familiarity with the remote and a lot of practice. When paired with a good conductor at an operating session we can usually get our work done and have time to enjoy a beverage before the next assignment.

Buddy,

I took the plunge and just ordered one and it will arrive Tuesday (5 Feb). I have had no problem running HO PS3 engines with my Digitrax system; no problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately, my throttle is at Digitrax for an upgrade so all I have for now is my old, minimal function Digitrax throttle to test the MTH GP35.

I'll post some photos and thoughts on the MTH engine, probably later this week.

Thank you

You're coming back to O, Buddy Boy! You may have all that benchwork and track laid for S but you'll be back (and I have some 2R stuff you need to buy!)

I seem to recall hearing that the MTH S catalog was due out soon -- this spring?

You'll be at 50 engines in no time...

I've decided (I think) to put a 2R shelf switching run along one wall of the basement and around a corner just for fun (until you convince me to go S scale) and I'm going to keep some rolling stock for it. We'll see. It's just goofing around for now.

'Course, we got no PS3 until at least Fall!
