Hi All,

A friend brought over a MTH 30-11006 crossing signal that he could not get working correctly (with no instructions).

I'm not familiar with this and since it only had 2 wires (red & black) I tried simple AC and only one side lit and stayed lit.  Next used an AC to DC power supply and that worked, LEDs blinked beautifully.  Thinking that it might require DC we then tried a simple diode and then bridge rectifier on the AC, but neither of those worked.  Tried a Lionel IR relay, no go.  Tried a 9v battery and then again success...what am I missing here with this signal?  I want to assume that it should work with AC and an insulated rail section as a switch but I can only get it to work with very clean DC...

Thanks as always for your insights and if anyone could post the MTH instructions that would be great!  (could not find them on the MTH web-site)

S/F Mike

Is it practical to pop out the circuit-board in the signal base?  Based on your experiments I'm thinking a defective capacitor which ought to be easily identified and replaced.  I figure there will be a diode(s) near where the power comes in for the AC-to-DC conversion, and then a electrolytic-type capacitor right next to the diode(s).
