I want to use the MTH AIU with Ross switches and switch machines. I also want to use a control panel with switch buttons and led's to indicate direction of travel. I would like the led's, switch buttons and AIU's to work together. Has anyone done this. Any help will be appreciated. Al

I do have the Ross switches with the DZ1000 switch machines wired with the DZ 1000 push button controller and through the AIU. Easy to do, just need a common connection for the wires of each to come together. Also have the non-derailing wire from the control rail off the switch come down and meet at the connection.
The switch machine operates off each wire as a path to ground. Yellow wire off the DZ1000 switch machine to the common conection point, the path to ground is accomplished through either of the 3 options
1. yellow wire off the DZ1000 push button controller (or any type double throw single pole switch, center off switch)
2. the yellow wire connected back to the AIU,
3. the yellow wire connected to the wire off the control rail for non-derail action.
Same goes for the green wire.
You may have to fiddle a little with the wires to get the LED to light up with the correct turnout position.

I agree with Dan. When I got my AIU I wanted to keep my control panel with the buttons and lighting for manual control. It works great, I can control my turnouts with DCS and the lighting changes on the control panel and I can control them with the buttons on the panel as well.
It depends on the number of switches you have or want to control through the AIU. A couple of switches is no issue but if you have 10 or more and some are closely placed it is hard to switch them fast enough with the CAB controller; so you need the dual control on a panel.
Now with the AIU you can program groups of switches that you can't do from a panel. So that one control push on the CAB activates multiple switches simultaneously. I have never tried this.
Alan, You got it right.
You can make routes in the DCS controller that will throw any number of switches at the same time. I use this feature to throw the switches in and out of my yard. Pick Siding number and hit act, Bang, all the switches throw to connect that siding to the main.
You can also set up routes with a Cab-1 or -2 and SC-2's. My yards are also set up that way.
